Hayatu-Deen Enters ADC Presidential Race, Urges Unity Ahead of Primaries

Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has entered the race for the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), adding to the growing list of contenders positioning within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He joined the ADC on April 12 after earlier seeking the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His entry places him in the same emerging contest that includes figures such as Atiku Abubakar of Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi of Rotimi Amaechi, and Peter Obi of Peter Obi.

Speaking on a national television programme on Wednesday, Hayatu-Deen said Nigeria’s current conditions demand leadership grounded in experience and practical understanding of governance challenges.

He also directed attention to internal cohesion within the ADC, describing unity as essential to the party’s electoral prospects.

“Our strength lies in our unity. Nigerians are looking for a credible alternative, and the ADC must rise to that moment,” he said.

“Together, we can offer a real path forward, one that secures our country, grows our economy, and restores hope to our people.”

He urged party members to support a collective approach ahead of the primaries, adding: “Join me. Let us build a Nigeria that works again, for everyone.”

Hayatu-Deen pointed to his background of more than four decades in banking, public policy, and organisational restructuring as part of what qualifies him for the contest. He cited his involvement in economic reform efforts, investment initiatives, and education-related projects.

He also referenced national recognition with the Order of the Niger (OON), conferred during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as well as his role as chair of the 2015 economic transition committee under the administration of Muhammadu Buhari.

On national conditions, he highlighted rising inflation, increasing fuel costs, and pressure on household incomes. He also raised concerns over insecurity and currency instability, noting the impact on both citizens and businesses.

According to him, the widening gap between government actions and everyday realities requires a shift in approach.

“This is not the Nigeria we deserve. It is time to change course, and that is why I am stepping forward to seek the ADC presidential ticket,” he said.

He described his campaign focus as centred on economic stability, improved security structures, and rebuilding trust in public institutions, adding that leadership should prioritise systems that generate jobs and protect livelihoods.
