Gunmen Kidnap Four Female Federal University Students, Police Launch

Four female students of Joseph Saawuaan Tarka Federal University, Makurdi, have been kidnapped by gunmen, prompting a swift response from security forces. The incident, which occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, has raised concerns over student safety as the institution borders areas previously affected by attacks.

The Benue State Police Command confirmed the abduction, stating that efforts are underway to rescue the victims. Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Sewuese Anene, told SK Blog that an investigation has commenced.

Eyewitnesses say the students were on their way to a reading point near the North Core area of the campus when they were taken. Some of the victims have been identified by their first names—Emmanuella Oraka, who was reportedly dressed in a wrapper, Fola in a yellow top, Susan in a floral top, and Ella in a black top.

Following the abduction, students launched a protest, marching around the campus with tree branches and demanding immediate action from school authorities. Despite the growing unrest, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Isaac Itodo, has yet to release an official statement.

Security personnel, including troops from Operation Whirl Stroke, have been deployed to the area. The Makurdi Local Government Chairman and other state officials are coordinating with security agencies to address the situation.
