Gunmen Attack Church in Delta: Two Policemen Killed, Community Leader Abducted
Suspected kidnappers attacked the ‘King Jesus’ church off DBS Road in Asaba, Delta State, killing two policemen and abducting Joan Onyemaechi, the Ada Anioma and a prominent community leader.
The attack took place on Tuesday evening, with the gunmen opening fire on the security personnel stationed at the church before seizing their target. According to eyewitness reports, the assailants were heavily armed and swiftly executed their plan, leaving the policemen dead and taking Onyemaechi captive.
A source suggested that the kidnapping might be ransom-related, although the exact motive remains unclear. Attempts to reach the state police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, were unsuccessful as his phone was unreachable at the time of reporting.
However, a senior police officer, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed the incident and stated that the police have launched an investigation. Efforts are underway to track down the kidnappers and rescue the abducted community leader.
“The authorities have increased security measures in the area to prevent further attacks,” the officer added.
