Grid Recovery Process Has Reached an Advanced Stage – TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported significant strides in the ongoing efforts to recover the national grid, following a partial power outage that occurred on Monday, October 14, at 6:48 pm.

Restoration efforts began promptly, with the Azura power station playing a pivotal role in jump-starting the process. However, despite reaching advanced stages of recovery by 10:24 am on Tuesday, a minor setback briefly delayed the progress.

In a statement, TCN assured the public that the recovery process continued smoothly despite the delay, with approximately 90% of the company’s substations across the country now receiving bulk power.

Power has been restored to critical regions, including the Abuja area and several key distribution centres nationwide. The Ibom Gas generating station was unaffected by the incident, ensuring a steady power supply to South-South areas, such as Eket, Uyo, Ekim, and the Itu 132kV transmission substations.

TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah stated that a full investigation into the cause of the outage would commence once the grid is fully restored.

This incident underscores the TCN’s commitment to stabilizing Nigeria’s power supply despite occasional disruptions. The national grid initially collapsed at 6:48 pm on Monday, plunging homes and businesses into darkness. While recovery efforts were underway, the grid experienced another disruption at 9:17 am on Tuesday. However, TCN continues to work towards a full resolution.
