Gov Ortom Suspends Enforcement Of Anti-Open Grazing Law In Benue
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has temporarily suspended the operations of livestock guards and the state para-military agency saddled with the responsibility of enforcing the state anti-open grazing for a period of two weeks.
The move, according to the governor, was to allow all herdsmen with livestock across the state to leave.
The governor made the disclosure on Tuesday shortly after a security council meeting that followed the recent wanton killing in the state.
At least 130 persons have been killed in the last few days following unprovoked attacks by the bloodthirsty herdsmen militia.
The governor, while addressing journalists after the security meeting, explained that the suspension was to show a good fate to all the herders who claimed to have come into the state without knowing there was Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of 2017.
Governor Ortom also revealed that security agencies in the state have received directives from President Muhammadu Buhari to fish out perpetrators of the mass killings across the state.
He called on the security agencies to act fast on the matter in order to bring victims of the attack some form of justice.
