Google Appoints Enugu-born Alex Okosi as Managing Director for Africa
Google, the global technology giant, has appointed Alex Okosi, a Nigerian-born executive, as its Managing Director for the Africa region. This announcement was made by Meir Brand, Vice President of EMEA Emerging Markets at Google, in a recent statement.
Alex Okosi brings a wealth of experience to this role, having previously served as the Managing Director for YouTube in EMEA Emerging Markets. His new responsibilities will encompass overseeing Google’s operations in Africa, including initiatives aimed at fostering business growth, expanding internet access, and providing essential tools to empower the next billion users in the region.
Meir Brand, in his statement, emphasized Okosi’s leadership qualities and his profound understanding of African countries. Brand noted that Okosi is deeply passionate about utilizing technology to empower both individuals and businesses across the continent.
Before his tenure at YouTube, Alex Okosi held the position of Executive Vice President and Managing Director at Viacom International Media Networks Africa and BET International. During his time at YouTube, Okosi played a pivotal role in driving the platform’s growth and expanding its reach across Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey.
This appointment underscores Google’s commitment to the African market and its determination to contribute to the growth and development of the region’s digital landscape. Alex Okosi’s extensive experience in the media and technology sectors positions him as a key player in driving Google’s initiatives in Africa forward.
