Ghana Arrests Nigerian Suspect Linked to Killing of FRSC Officer and Daughter
Ghanaian authorities have taken into custody a Nigerian national, Victor Benjamin Fajemirokun, who is wanted in connection with the killing of a Federal Road Safety Corps officer, Lasisi Funmilayo, and her daughter, Sewa, in Ogun State. The arrest was confirmed by George Ohene-Boadi, head of the Eastern South Regional Police Command, who told reporters that the 36-year-old suspect crossed into Ghana to escape an ongoing investigation in Nigeria.
According to Ohene-Boadi, officers acted after a video surfaced alleging that Fajemirokun abducted and killed the victims in Abeokuta. Intelligence operatives traced him to a friend’s home in Akutia, where he was arrested during a coordinated operation. He is being held while arrangements are made to transfer him to Nigerian authorities.
Funmilayo and her daughter had reportedly travelled with the suspect to Osun State on November 2. What happened afterward remains under investigation, with Nigerian officials alleging the involvement of a group that included a self-proclaimed herbalist. The Nigerian police had earlier launched a search for the herbalist after reviewing communication records linked to the suspect. Subsequent undercover operations led to arrests in Osun and Ekiti, with those detained reportedly providing information that helped investigators locate the victims’ remains in a remote bushy area.
Ghanaian officials say they are working closely with their Nigerian counterparts to ensure the cross-border investigation reaches a conclusion.
