German Protesters Demand Mass Deportations After Saudi Doctor Kills 5 in Christmas Market Attack
Far-right protesters in Germany rallied in Magdeburg on Saturday, December 21, demanding mass deportations following a deadly attack at a Christmas market earlier this week. The attack left five people dead and dozens injured after a car plowed through a crowded market.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 50-year-old Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, a Saudi Arabian psychiatrist who has lived in Germany for nearly 20 years. He remains in custody on multiple charges, including five counts of murder and numerous counts of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm. Officials are still investigating the motive behind the attack, which involved the suspect allegedly using emergency exits to drive into the market grounds and accelerate into the crowd. Over 200 people were struck during the three-minute rampage, with about 40 sustaining serious or critical injuries. Among the victims were a nine-year-old boy and four women aged 45 to 65.
The protests drew around 2,100 participants, some wearing black balaclavas and carrying banners that read “Reimigration Now” and “Migration Kills.” Demonstrators shouted slogans such as “Anyone who doesn’t love Germany should leave” and called for the “restoration” of German cities, villages, and cultural identity. The phrase “reimigration,” popular among far-right groups, refers to the mass deportation of immigrants and individuals not considered ethnically German.
Police reported minor disturbances during the demonstration but confirmed no significant violence. German tabloid Bild highlighted the nationalist tone of the protest, which included the display of “homeland flags” to emphasize the demand for stricter immigration policies.
