“GEJ is not interested in running for president in 2027, that chapter is closed” – Adeyanju
Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has dismissed speculation that former president Goodluck Jonathan is considering a return to the presidential race in 2027. In recent months, there have been reports suggesting that the Peoples Democratic Party was mounting pressure on Jonathan to challenge President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress in the next election. Jonathan’s silence on the matter had fueled rumours that he might be preparing for a comeback.
Adeyanju, however, said on Monday that such expectations should be laid to rest. Writing on his Facebook page, he stressed that Jonathan has no interest in contesting again, declaring that the matter is settled. According to him, “GEJ is not interested in running for president in 2027. That chapter is closed. Anything you hear about GEJ is a distraction.”
With Adeyanju’s statement, speculation about Jonathan’s possible return to the political fray may now give way to clearer discussions about who will emerge as the key contenders ahead of the 2027 polls.
