Gbajabiamila gives Akpabio 48hours to name beneficiaries of NDDC contracts
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has given the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, 48 hours to name the lawmakers who received contracts from the Niger Delta Development Commission.
During the recent public hearing set up by the house of representatives Committee on NDDC, Akpabio had dropped a bombshell saying that 60 per cent of the contracts awarded by the NDDC had gone to members of the Assembly.
Gbajabiamila, who has been in the house of assembly since 2003, said he had never received any NDDC contract before and stated that “And I will give the minister 24 to 48 hours to name beneficiaries of the stated contracts”.
He consequently directed that the clerk of the house should prepare a letter from the House giving the minister a maximum of 48 hours to publish the names of recepients, the contracts so given and the dates the contracts were given.
Gbajabiamila’s action was lauded by a large section of the lawmakers.
