Fuel Price Hike: DSS to Meet with Oil Marketers
Petroleum marketers are set to meet with the Department of State Services (DSS) on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, to discuss the rising prices of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and its availability across the country.
The President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) confirmed the meeting during an interview with newsmen on Monday. While specific details regarding the agenda were not disclosed, he emphasized that the discussions would focus on the petrol pump price and its availability to marketers.
“Wednesday, I have a meeting with the Department of State Services. It is about the petrol pump price. Anywhere IPMAN is involved, it is about the issue of petrol and its availability to members,” he stated.
When further pressed for information about the meeting’s specifics, he indicated that he would provide updates following the discussions.
This meeting comes as Nigerians are currently purchasing fuel at prices ranging from N950 to N1,200 or more nationwide. Additionally, it was reported on Monday that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has ceased its role as the sole off-taker of Dangote Petrol. This shift follows the commencement of petrol distribution by Dangote Refinery in September, coinciding with an increase in petrol pump prices by NNPCL.
