Fubara Reveals Details of Closed-Door Meeting with Tinubu

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has disclosed the outcome of his closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, saying the discussions centered on his return to office and ways to sustain peace in the state.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Fubara explained that his visit was to formally inform the President of his resumption of duties following the expiration of the state of emergency imposed on Rivers State. He said the suspension was lifted on September 17, and he resumed as governor two days later, making it important to update the President and seek his guidance.

According to Fubara, the meeting was more of a father-son interaction in which the President offered him advice on leadership and governance. “It’s proper for me to see Mr. President and tell him that I’m back and have resumed my responsibilities as Governor of Rivers State. It was a father-son discussion, thanking him and seeking guidance so we don’t run into another crisis,” he said.

The governor stressed that Tinubu gave him useful counsel on how to navigate challenges ahead. “He advised me on what to do and how to go in this life,” Fubara added.

On the political situation in Rivers, Fubara confirmed that he has reconciled with his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, dismissing any notion of a superficial truce. “As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together,” he declared.
