FRSC Confirms 12 Dead, Two Injured in Kogi Road Crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 12 people lost their lives while two others sustained injuries in a fatal road crash along the Ejule–Enugu highway in Kogi State.

The accident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Friday at Iboko community in Idah Local Government Area.

Speaking with journalists in Lokoja on Saturday, the Kogi State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Tenimu Etuku, described the incident as tragic and unfortunate, noting that one child was among those who died.

According to him, the crash involved an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Romchi Mass Transit, which was travelling from Abuja to the eastern part of the country. The bus reportedly rammed into a parked, faulty articulated vehicle due to excessive speed.

Mr Etuku said FRSC personnel promptly carried out rescue operations, evacuating the injured victims to Mercy of Jesus Hospital, Ejule, for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the morgue.

He expressed condolences to the families of the victims and warned motorists against speeding and reckless overtaking, especially during the festive season.

The sector commander urged drivers to obey traffic rules, exercise patience, and adopt safe driving practices during long-distance journeys, stressing that such measures would help reduce the rising cases of road crashes and fatalities across the country.
