Four South African Traffic Officers Arrested Over Murder of Nigerian Man
Four traffic police officers in South Africa have been arrested for the killing of a 37-year-old Nigerian man, Osinakachukwu Marcus Onu, who was legally living in the country. Onu was shot and killed on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, along the N12 highway in Klerksdorp.
The arrested officers, aged between 25 and 36, are members of South Africa’s national traffic department (RTM road traffic management). Reports indicate that Onu was chased by the officers during traffic operations. During the pursuit, he was allegedly shot, and his car was later found abandoned in the middle of the road, while his body lay nearby.
Police responded quickly to the incident, but the officers had already fled the scene. Investigations led detectives to a location in Klerksdorp where the suspects’ official firearms were seized for forensic examination.
The four officers are expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, December 18, facing charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.
North West Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General (Dr) Naidoo commended the Klerksdorp detectives for their prompt action and thanked members of the public who provided information that led to the arrests, ensuring justice for the victim.
