Four Dead, Two Hospitalized After Consuming Poisonous Fish in Taraba
Four people have lost their lives, and two others are receiving medical treatment after consuming a poisonous fish in Kashimbila, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
According to intelligence sources, six Fulani herders—Abdul Juli, Sule Abubakar, Adamu Mato, Saidu Payo, Yusuf Musa, and Ibrahim Haruna—went on a fishing expedition at a nearby river on February 22, 2025, around 10:00 p.m. After catching and cooking the fish, they unknowingly consumed a poisonous species, which led to severe illness.
The following day, February 23, all six were rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Kashimbila, where four of them—Juli, Abubakar, Mato, and Payo—were confirmed dead by the attending doctor. The two survivors, Musa and Haruna, are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.
The incident was reported to the police by a resident, Haruna Isiaka, from Chidawa Village. Authorities have since moved the bodies to the hospital mortuary for autopsy, while an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
