Former Wike Ally, Rivers Reps Member, Declares Support for Governor Fubara

Boniface Emerengwa, a House of Representatives member representing Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency in Rivers State, has pledged his support to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, breaking away from his previous allegiance to former Governor Nyesom Wike.

Emerengwa made his declaration during a recent visit to Governor Fubara in Port Harcourt, where he commended the governor’s achievements and condemned the struggle among politicians to overshadow the governor’s leadership within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the state. He emphasized the constitutional role of elected governors as the leaders of their respective states.

Governor Fubara, in response, welcomed Emerengwa’s show of loyalty and reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his promises to the people of Rivers State.

Emerengwa’s decision adds to the growing support for Governor Fubara among House of Representatives members, with five out of the 13 representatives from Rivers State now openly backing the governor. Among these supporters are Awaji-Inombek Abiante (PDP-Andoni/Opobo-Nkoro), Boma Goodhead (PDP-Asari Toru/Akuku Toru), Anderson Allison (APC-Okrika/Ogu/Bolo), and Umezuruike (Labour Party-Port Harcourt Constituency 1).

This endorsement follows a series of political resignations across local government areas, including that of the Leader of Obio/Akpor Legislative Council and the councillor representing Wike’s ward, Achor Nna.

While efforts have been made to reconcile Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, led by President Bola Tinubu, both factions appear resolute in maintaining their political structures. Wike recently expressed confidence in his ability to overcome any opposition within Rivers State.
