Former President Buhari’s Body Arrives Daura for Burial
The body of former President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Daura, his hometown in Katsina State, where thousands of mourners gathered to pay their final respects. The Nigeria Air Force (NAF) hearse transporting his remains entered the Buhari family compound at 4:25 p.m., as preparations began for Islamic burial rites led by clerics and military personnel.
Security in the area was significantly heightened, with every available space around the residence filled by mourners who traveled from across the country. Many described Buhari as a hero and a leader who remained committed to the common man.
Earlier, the body landed at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina, where it was received by President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and top military commanders. Also present were several senior politicians and dignitaries, who stood in solemn formation during a brief military ceremony on the tarmac.
The late president’s remains were accompanied by his wife, Aisha Buhari, and members of his immediate family. From the airport, the NAF hearse made its way to Daura by road, where hundreds of thousands had been awaiting his arrival since early morning. The atmosphere was heavy with emotion as crowds gathered to say goodbye to a man many viewed as a steadfast voice for the poor and underserved.
