Former Nigerian NSA Linked to $1M US Horse Farm, Wife’s Visa Denied Over Funding Concerns

An investigation by the Platform to Protect Whistleblowers in Africa has revealed that a former Nigerian National Security Adviser (NSA) purchased a 127-acre horse farm in South Carolina in 2002 under questionable circumstances.

According to the report, published on February 24, 2025, the ex-NSA was serving as the head of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company at the time of the purchase. This agency is responsible for printing Nigeria’s currency. The investigation was conducted in collaboration with the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project, The Post and Courier in South Carolina, and The Houston Chronicle in Texas.

The report further disclosed that the ex-NSA’s wife applied for an American investor visa, using the horse farm purchase as proof of investment. In her application, she claimed the $1 million used to acquire the property came from a lobbying contract her husband allegedly secured while leading Nigeria’s Mint. The contract, she told U.S. officials, was to influence Ghanaian authorities on behalf of a Texas oil company seeking access to an offshore oil platform.

However, U.S. officials rejected the visa application due to concerns over the source of the funds. Despite this, no further action was taken regarding the horse farm.

The property was later transferred into the ex-NSA’s wife’s name and is now rented out as an Airbnb and wedding venue. The facility includes a 55-stall equestrian center, 16 paddocks, a quarter-mile track, stadium ring equipment with jumps, four horses, four barns, and trails throughout the estate.
