Major General Chris Alli (retd.), the former Chief of Army Staff, breathed his last at the Military Hospital in Lagos State following a period of illness.
The army headquarters officially confirmed his demise on Sunday, with Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja extending heartfelt condolences.
Major General Alli (rtd.) assumed the role of the ninth Chief of Army Staff in November 1993, serving until his retirement from active duty in August 1994. Born on December 25, 1944, in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, Gen Chris Alli commenced his journey in the Nigerian Army on October 20, 1967, as a member of the Emergency Short Service Combatant Course. His dedicated service spanned various roles, encompassing staff, instructional, and command positions. At one point, Gen Alli held the position of Military Administrator of Plateau State.
Upon learning of Major General Alli’s passing, COAS Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja conveyed deep condolences to the late former COAS’s family, friends, and colleagues. In a release by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the army spokesperson, COAS Lagbaja expressed prayers for the repose of Gen Chris Alli’s soul and offered strength and solace to the grieving family during this challenging time.
