Former Finance Minister, Okonjo-Iweala Obtains American Citizenship
Nigeria’s former Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has obtained American citizenship.
Okonjo-Iweala, who is vying for the position of the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, obtained the citizenship in 2019, her spokeswoman told Bloomberg.
The practice according to her spokesman is not uncommon for international civil servants with years of working abroad to take up dual citizenship. The former Finance Minister was nominated for by President Muhammadu Buhari as the the country’s candidate for the position.
