First Lady Tinubu to Preach at Lambeth Palace During UK State Visit
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, is scheduled to preach at Lambeth Palace on Thursday, as part of the ongoing state visit to the United Kingdom led by Bola Tinubu.
The president and the First Lady arrived in London on Tuesday through Stansted Airport. In addition to her appearance at Lambeth Palace, Mrs. Tinubu is expected to hold meetings with representatives of the Church of England on the same day.
According to the official programme, the visit includes high-level engagements with members of the British royal family. President Tinubu and his wife are due to meet King Charles III on Wednesday. They will also meet Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales before proceeding to Windsor.
The president is expected to be formally received at Windsor Castle, where King Charles III will host a state banquet in his honour.
This marks Nigeria’s first state visit to the United Kingdom in nearly 40 years and comes amid expanding bilateral relations. In November 2024, both countries signed a strategic partnership agreement focused on trade, security, and migration.
Trade between Nigeria and the UK reached £8.1 billion (approximately $11 billion) in the year ending September 2025, reflecting an 11.4 per cent increase compared to the previous year. Ongoing discussions are expected to cover British-supported port development projects in Nigeria, alongside broader economic cooperation.
