Finland Opens 2025 Seasonal Work Permit Applications for Nigerians, Others

The Finnish Immigration Service has officially begun accepting applications for the 2025 Finland Seasonal Work Permit, offering foreign nationals, including Nigerians, the opportunity to secure temporary employment in the country’s agriculture, forestry, and tourism sectors. The permit allows migrant workers to take on seasonal jobs in Finland for up to nine months within a 12-month period, helping to address labor shortages while providing international work experience.

According to TravelBiz, the seasonal work permits are specifically designed for foreign nationals, ensuring compliance with Finland’s labor regulations. Applicants must secure the necessary permit before traveling to Finland. The Finnish Immigration Service provides two types of seasonal work permits based on the length of employment.

The first option is the Seasonal Work Visa, which applies to employment lasting up to three months. Foreign nationals from countries requiring a visa must apply at a Finnish embassy before traveling. However, citizens of visa-exempt countries can instead apply directly for a Certificate for Seasonal Work through the Finnish Immigration Service.

For those seeking longer employment, the Residence Permit for Seasonal Work covers work periods between three and nine months. This permit must be obtained before entering Finland, and the application process can take up to 90 days, making early submission essential.

To qualify for the Finland Seasonal Work Permit, applicants must meet specific criteria. A signed employment contract from a Finnish employer is mandatory, and workers must earn at least €1,430 (N2.2 million) per month unless a collective agreement specifies otherwise. Additionally, applicants must secure accommodation that meets Finnish health and safety standards and submit all required documents to avoid delays.

Prospective workers must first secure a job offer from a Finnish employer in agriculture, forestry, or tourism. Once an employment contract is signed, applicants must prepare necessary documents, including a valid passport, contract, and proof of accommodation. They must then choose the appropriate permit, pay the required fees, and monitor their application status through the Finnish Immigration Service’s official website.

With this opportunity now open, interested applicants are encouraged to apply early to ensure timely processing and secure their chance to work in Finland in 2025.
