FG Unveils Plans to Disburse 753 Recovered Emefiele Houses

The Federal Government has announced plans to distribute 753 housing units recently recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele. The disclosure was made by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, during the inauguration of the newly reconstituted board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) in Abuja on Monday, May 26.

Dangiwa explained that the properties were officially handed over to the Ministry of Housing by the EFCC on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, and the ministry has since taken full possession. The minister stated that a thorough integrity assessment will be conducted on the buildings to ensure their structural safety, including a review of the estates’ infrastructure and associated facilities.

To this end, a technical committee has been set up and given a four-week deadline to complete the evaluation. Dangiwa noted that the goal is to bring the houses to a semi-finished state before disbursement begins. Once the assessment is concluded, the ministry will secure necessary funding to finalize the homes for allocation.

While some of the houses will be set aside for government use, the majority will be made available to the general public. Dangiwa assured that details of the formal allocation process will be announced after the assessment phase. He also confirmed that the Federal Ministry of Housing’s Renewed Hope Portal will be used for the distribution, allowing Nigerians to view available homes and select preferred payment options.
