JUST IN: FG Reveals Date to Start Implementation of Minimum Wage
The Federal Government has announced that the implementation of the new national minimum wage will be backdated to July 29, 2024. This decision was reached by the Committee on Consequential Adjustments in Salaries for civil servants, following a series of meetings held in Abuja.
According to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) seen by our correspondent, the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC) will generate the necessary salary templates for different consolidated salary structures. The document confirmed that the new wage structure will officially take effect from July 29, 2024.
This development follows the recent enactment of the National Minimum Wage Act 2024, which increased the national minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000. The 16-member committee was tasked with negotiating salary adjustments and developing a template for implementing the new wage.
