FG Plans NYSC-Style Training for NCE Graduates
The Federal Government is set to introduce a new training initiative for Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) graduates, akin to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program. This development was announced by the Minister of State for Youth Development, Mr. Olawande Wisdom, at the BEMORE OYO 2024 Summer Bootcamp in Ibadan on Monday.
Mr. Wisdom outlined plans for a collaboration between the Ministry of Youth Development and the Ministry of Education to implement new training reforms. The proposed scheme aims to provide NCE graduates and other categories of graduates with training similar to that of the NYSC, which has traditionally been available only to university graduates.
“The focus of our ministry is on citizenship and training, and we are reintroducing these programs. While NYSC serves university graduates, we want to ensure NCE graduates and others receive similar training in their home states,” Wisdom said.
He also praised Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, founder of the BEMORE Empowered Girls Foundation, for her impactful work in advancing the development of girls and elevating standards of excellence. Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu clarified that the BEMORE initiative is a private effort to empower young women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), not a government program.
Additionally, Mr. Abdulrahman Yinusa, Group Managing Director and CEO of Odu’a Investments, addressed attendees, encouraging them to fully engage with the training opportunities and praising the dedication of the organizers and mentors.
The event included a Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training session by the Red Cross Society and the launch of “The History of BEMORE: A Historical Voyage” by Esther Michael.
