FG Pegs Admission Age into Tertiary Institutions at 18
The Federal Government has set the minimum age for admission into tertiary institutions at 18 years. This decision, announced by the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman, during a policy meeting in Abuja on Thursday, mandates that only students above the age of 18 can be admitted into universities and colleges across the country.
The directive, aimed at addressing challenges attributed to underage students in higher education, tasks the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) with enforcing the new regulation strictly. The announcement met with mixed reactions at the meeting, with heads of institutions, registrars, admission officers, and other stakeholders expressing concerns and objections.
