FG Names ICT Block at Women’s Development Centre in Honor of Tinubu’s Late Mother

In a recent move to celebrate women’s empowerment and honor the legacy of Abibat Mogaji, mother of President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government has named the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) block at the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development (MBNCWD) in Abuja after her.

At the unveiling ceremony on Tuesday, Minister of Women Affairs Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim praised the late Abibat Mogaji as a powerful advocate for women’s empowerment and social justice, describing her as “a resilient matriarch whose unwavering commitment helped uplift countless women.”

“We are here to honor the remarkable values of gender inclusion and the humanitarian services rendered by an exceptional matriarch and advocate,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim stated. She emphasized that naming the ICT block after Mogaji symbolizes the country’s dedication to promoting women’s rights and creating opportunities for women and children to thrive.

First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Hajiya Nana Shettima, stressed the significance of technology in empowering women. “Access to information and communication technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity,” she said, underscoring the transformative role of technology in improving women’s lives and economic opportunities.

Dr. Asabe Vilita-Bashir, Director-General of MBNCWD, highlighted Mogaji’s lifelong work in advancing women’s economic empowerment, particularly at the grassroots level. “Let this ICT block serve as a reminder of the need for inclusivity in our programs and policies,” Vilita-Bashir said.

The event also featured remarks from Mrs. Felicia Sani, President of the Nigeria Market Women Association, who commemorated Mogaji as a leading advocate for women in commerce and urged the government to further empower women through the establishment of international markets across the nation, which she said could bolster the economy.
