The Federal Government has declared Thursday, June 12, a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 2025 Democracy Day. The announcement was made on Sunday in Abuja through a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.
The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated Nigerians on 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance. He described June 12 as a symbol of the nation’s historic journey toward building a society where truth, justice, peace, and hope prevail.
“June 12 represents our historic journey to building a nation where truth and justice reign, peace is sustained, and our future assured,” Tunji-Ojo stated. “The last 26 years tell the story of our resilience, strength, courage, and a hope renewed more than ever.”
He reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration to uphold democratic values anchored in the freely expressed will of the people, shaping Nigeria’s political, economic, social, and cultural direction.
