Federal Poly Expels Female Student Nabbed with Codeine, Cannabis

In a recent media briefing ahead of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro’s combined 2024 convocation ceremony, Rector Mukail Akinde confirmed the expulsion of a female student, Susan Isoyo. Isoyo, apprehended by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) 10 months ago, faced expulsion after being found guilty by the institution’s disciplinary panel.

Last April, NDLEA operatives arrested Isoyo, accusing her of illicit drug activities. The substances in question included codeine-based cough syrup and 283 grams of cannabis. Following her release from NDLEA custody, the polytechnic subjected Isoyo to an internal investigation, which ultimately resulted in her expulsion from the school.

During the media briefing, Rector Akinde emphasized the institution’s commitment to upholding its reputation, stating, “We detest any situation that could bring our name into any form of disrepute.” He explained that the polytechnic allowed external law enforcement agencies to complete their legal processes before initiating their internal disciplinary action.

Highlighting the preventive measures being taken, Akinde announced the commencement of routine drug tests for all students. He stressed that any student found with traces of hard drugs would face immediate expulsion. The rector acknowledged the effectiveness of this policy in curbing cultism on campus and expressed gratitude to the traditional ruler, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, for supporting efforts to combat social vices within the institution.
