Federal Lawmaker Renovates 80 Cemeteries as Constituency Project

A member of the House of Representatives, Kabiru Maipalace, has renovated 80 cemeteries across Gusau and Tsafe local government areas of Zamfara State as part of his constituency projects. The initiative was commissioned on Tuesday in Tsafe town, marking the lawmaker’s second year in office during his second term representing the Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency.

Maipalace explained that the decision to focus on cemeteries stemmed from the poor condition of burial grounds in many communities. He described the cemeteries as “our last home,” stressing the importance of ensuring they are well maintained. He said the project was motivated by the need to respect Islamic values, which emphasize the sanctity and upkeep of burial sites. According to him, proper maintenance of cemeteries can also help prevent disasters and misfortunes within society.

In addition to the renovations, the lawmaker announced plans to introduce monthly allowances for cemetery guards and workers. He also promised to provide necessary working tools to support their efforts in keeping the graveyards clean and secure.

Maipalace called on residents to continue offering prayers for peace and to support government efforts aimed at restoring stability in Zamfara, a state grappling with persistent insecurity. He said community involvement and prayer were crucial components of lasting peace.

The District Head of Tsafe East, Aliyu Abubakar, commended the initiative, describing it as a timely and meaningful intervention. He urged other elected officials to adopt similar community-focused projects that directly address local needs. Abubakar expressed appreciation on behalf of the Tsafe Emirate Council and praised the lawmaker for his continued efforts to tackle socio-economic challenges within the constituency.

The cemetery renovation project has drawn attention for its unusual focus, but residents have largely welcomed it as a thoughtful and spiritually significant gesture.
