Federal Government Revises Consolidated Salary Structure

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved revisions to the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), effective from July 24, 2024. This decision was announced by Ekpo Nta, Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), during a press briefing held on Tuesday in Abuja.

Nta revealed that the revisions come after President Bola Tinubu assented to the Act following its passage by the National Assembly. He emphasized that any federal public service entity—whether self-funded or treasury-funded—that has not received a circular regarding these changes should reach out to the NSIWC for further instructions.

“This is to avoid uncoordinated implementation, which could disrupt existing salary relativities within the federal public service,” Nta stated.

In addition to the CONPSS, the NSIWC Chairman outlined several other revised salary structures, including:

Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS)

Consolidated Universities Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS)

Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure II (CONTISS II)

Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS)

Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS)

Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS)

Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS)

Consolidated Para-Military Salary Structure (CONPASS)

Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS)

Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICSS)

Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS)

These revisions follow the enactment of the NSIWC Amendment Act 2024 and a Memorandum of Understanding reached between the Federal Government and the Trade Union side of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council on September 20. Further directives on how pensioners, NYSC members, and interns will benefit from these changes will be issued by the NSIWC.
