FCT Police Smash Notorious Six-Man “One Chance” Gang, Rescue Victim, Recover Loot
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismantled a notorious six-man “one chance” armed robbery gang, arresting five suspects, neutralizing one, rescuing a victim, and recovering their operational vehicle. According to the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Josephine Adeh, the breakthrough came on August 6 at about 8:30 a.m. when officers of the Anti-One Chance Unit, on routine patrol along the Kubwa Expressway, spotted a woman later identified as Angel Patrick being pushed out of a moving car. One team quickly stopped to rescue her and rushed her to Zankwochi Hospital, Mabushi, for urgent treatment, while another team of undercover officers pursued the fleeing suspects into Aso, Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
After a high-speed chase and a gunfight, police apprehended five suspects at the scene: Jude Simon of Mararaba, Emmanuel Akor, Daniel Benson, Uche Thomas, and Tope Ola, all from Mpape and already on the Command’s wanted list. Their dark grey Toyota Corolla was recovered, while one suspect, who sustained gunshot wounds, was later confirmed dead at Asokoro General Hospital. Investigations revealed that another member of the gang, John Simon, had been arrested in December 2024 for the same offence and remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre.
Items recovered include the Toyota Corolla, six ATM cards suspected to belong to previous victims, a jackknife, ₦115,000 in cash, and other personal effects. The suspects reportedly confessed to operating as “one chance” criminals for several years. The Commissioner of Police commended the officers’ bravery and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eradicating criminal elements from the FCT, urging residents to remain alert and board vehicles only from approved motor parks.
