FCT High Court Judge Recuses Self from El-Rufai Case
Justice Hussaini Belgore of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has withdrawn from the fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
The judge cited an impending leave as the reason for stepping aside. Following the development, the case file has been returned to the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court for reassignment to another judge.
El-Rufai’s suit, filed at the FCT High Court, alleges violations of his fundamental human rights. The case names several agencies, including the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
In his application, the former governor referenced the reported invasion of his Abuja residence and raised concerns over the roles of other security and anti-corruption bodies, such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS), in ongoing legal matters involving him.
With Justice Belgore’s withdrawal, proceedings in the case are paused pending reassignment by the FCT Chief Judge.
