Fayemi to Nigerians: “Political Rivalries Are Not Real, They’re Just for Your Entertainment”
Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has described political rivalries in Nigeria as mere theatrics designed to entertain the public. Speaking on Sunday during his 60th birthday thanksgiving service at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Isan-Ekiti, Fayemi dismissed the notion of deep-seated animosity among politicians.
His remarks came in response to those surprised by the presence of some of his political opponents at the event. He emphasized that the conflicts often seen in politics are not as serious as they appear. “All these things you read on social media are just for your entertainment,” he said. “Many will wonder why former Governor Segun Oni is here. I spent the entire day with him on his birthday. Governor Ayodele Fayose would have been here too without hesitation if he was around.”
Fayemi highlighted the need for unity beyond political affiliations, describing a shared commitment to the development of Ekiti State. He stated that, despite being members of different political parties, they all belong to what he called the “Ekiti Progressive Party” in spirit, supporting the state’s leadership and progress.
Reflecting on his milestone birthday, the former governor expressed gratitude for his journey. “I’m a product of grace, and I have so many reasons to be thankful to God at 60,” he said.
