Favour Ofili Makes History as First Nigerian Woman in 28 Years to Reach Olympic 200m Final
In a landmark achievement at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Favour Ofili has become the first Nigerian woman in 28 years to reach the final of the women’s 200m. Ofili secured her place in the final with a Season’s Best time of 22.05 seconds, finishing second in her heat behind Julien Alfred, who clocked 21.98 seconds.
This historic feat marks Ofili’s first appearance at the Olympics. Notably, she had been controversially omitted from the 100m event despite qualifying, a decision made by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).
Ofili’s performance has reignited hope and pride for Nigerian athletics on the global stage.
