Father of Slain Anambra Lawyer Collapses, Dies
The father of Jude Oguejiofor, a prominent legal practitioner based in Nnewi, Anambra State, has collapsed and died upon learning of his son’s abduction and subsequent killing.
Jude Oguejiofor, the Principal Partner in Oguejiofor & Co Chamber, and his brother, a medical doctor, were ambushed and abducted while en route to visit their parents last Sunday. Although the medical doctor was later released, the family faced a grim revelation as kidnappers contacted them, disclosing the lawyer’s tragic demise.
Sources indicate that the abductors expressed displeasure over Oguejiofor’s alleged reporting of their activities to the government. A confidential source shared, “He has never had any issue with gunmen in the community, but they claimed he had been writing petitions to the Anambra State government about their activities.”
Despite assurances that the lawyer would be released after investigations, the kidnappers later informed the family to abandon hope, revealing that Oguejiofor had been killed. The spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, responded to inquiries, stating, “There’s no such report before me.”
In a swift reaction, the Eastern Bar Forum (EBF) expressed deep sorrow and outrage at the assassination of one of its esteemed members. Describing Oguejiofor as a symbol of integrity and a legal pillar in the Eastern region, the EBF condemned the heinous act. The forum called on law enforcement agencies to promptly investigate the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.
