Fatal Road Accident Claims Eight Lives in Imo State
A fatal motor accident on Sunday claimed the lives of eight people in Imo State. The crash, which involved a Toyota Camry with registration number EPE 541 JO and a Hyundai Santa Fe with registration number AAA 212 CD, occurred at Amala, Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area.
Police operatives from the Ngor-Okpala Divisional Headquarters swiftly arrived at the scene to manage the situation. According to the spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, the remains of the victims were immediately evacuated and taken to the mortuary. The damaged vehicles were also cleared from the road to ease traffic flow.
The police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident and to identify the victims’ families. DSP Okoye confirmed that pictorial evidence had been documented to aid further inquiries.
Reacting to the tragic incident, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, warned motorists against reckless driving and excessive speeding, emphasizing that these remain major causes of road accidents. He urged all road users to observe traffic regulations and drive responsibly to prevent similar occurrences.
CP Danjuma reminded drivers of their duty to protect not only their own lives but also those of other road users by adhering to road safety guidelines. He also called on members of the public to assist the police with any useful information that could help identify the victims.
