Fasoranti Denounces Afenifere Discord Caused by Alleged Labour Party Influence
The Afenifere, a prominent pan-Yoruba socio-political group, faces internal discord as its leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, speaks out against what he terms as false narratives propagated by a faction within the organization. Fasoranti criticized the acting leader, Ayo Adebanjo, for challenging the Supreme Court’s ruling on President Bola Tinubu’s victory, stating that it doesn’t align with the official stance of the Afenifere.
The rift deepened when Fasoranti disassociated the Afenifere from a communiqué signed by Adebanjo and Secretary-General Sola Ebiseni, asserting that the group had previously congratulated Tinubu on his election triumphs. Fasoranti pointed to the involvement of individuals he referred to as “Labour Party elements” as exacerbating the internal conflict within Afenifere.
During a meeting held at Isanya-Ogbo, Ogun State, Fasoranti’s faction reaffirmed their support for the Supreme Court’s decision, labeling the dissenting communiqué as an attempt to tarnish the organization’s reputation. Fasoranti emphasized his leadership status within Afenifere and clarified that Adebanjo served as the acting leader, expected to defer to his authority.
The statement released by Fasoranti aimed to debunk the misrepresentations, stating that the views expressed by Adebanjo’s faction do not align with the official position of Afenifere, highlighting a clear division within the influential Yoruba body.
