Family Confirms Death of Missing UniAbuja Student in Fatal Road Crash
Murjanatu Zubairu, a 400-level student at the University of Abuja (UniAbuja), who was reported missing after leaving home for school on Friday, has been found dead following a car accident along Lugbe – Airport Road in Abuja, according to family sources.
Murjanatu, a student in the Department of Arts Education, was last seen on Friday before disappearing, prompting her family to report her as missing. After failing to reach her by phone, the family alerted both the university management and security agencies, leading to a public appeal for information on her whereabouts.
Zubairu Yewuti, the student’s uncle, and a former vice chairman of the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), confirmed that the family discovered her death through a tragic car accident last Friday. The remains of Murjanatu were found at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital morgue.
Yewuti disclosed that the family is now making arrangements to retrieve Murjanatu’s body for a proper burial. Sunday Ajokotola, a commander with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said the accident occurred around 8 p.m. and involved a Toyota Sharon bus near the Dunamis Church along the Airport Road.
Ajokotola explained that the accident claimed four lives, including Murjanatu. “Six of the ten people inside the bus sustained burns but were rescued by Airforce personnel and treated at their hospital,” he stated. “However, our team arrived at the scene and evacuated the four others who succumbed to their injuries, including a female who was burnt beyond recognition.”
Despite the tragic outcome, the family has expressed gratitude for the support and assistance provided during the search for their loved one and is now focused on organizing her final farewell.
