Explosion Reported at Ilese Barracks in Ogun State, Nigerian Army Confirms
The Nigerian Army has confirmed a minor explosion followed by a fire at Ilese Barracks, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, in the early hours of Thursday, August 14, 2025.
The incident reportedly occurred within a storage building of the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Squadron. The military stated that a rapid response by troops and the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service helped contain the fire quickly.
Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, reassured the public that no lives were lost and no injuries were sustained. She added that a full investigation has begun to determine the cause of the explosion and prevent future incidents.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all its personnel as well as members of neighbouring communities,” Anele said.
Residents of Ilese and surrounding areas have been urged to remain calm and continue their daily activities. A detailed assessment of material losses is currently underway.
The army emphasized that the situation is under control and that measures are being taken to prevent any recurrence.
