Ex-Super Eagles Star Ogenyi Onazi’s Brother in Tragic Car Crash, Wife Dies
Oche Thompson, the brother of former Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi, has been involved in a devastating car accident that resulted in the death of his wife, Ann.
Onazi, who has played for Lazio and Denizlispor, shared the heartbreaking news on his Instagram page on Friday. He recounted that the crash occurred when a truck driver lost control and collided with 10 vehicles, instantly killing Ann.
Onazi detailed the incident, stating, “On Tuesday 18th, at about 4 pm my elder brother @onazithmps was driving with his wife to visit someone. In the traffic, a truck loaded with fertilizer, out of control, crashed into more than 10 cars, killing my brother’s wife instantly. My brother survived with several dislocated joints and is scheduled for surgery. Other people also died in the accident.”
Expressing his anguish and calling for action, Onazi criticized the driver’s lack of a proper license and the general state of driving standards in Nigeria. “The driver ran away but was eventually apprehended. I learned he did not have a proper driving license. In Nigeria, many people driving on the roads lack proper driving knowledge. Trucks and tankers have been causing fatalities due to reckless driving. I am really sad and confused.. Ann Onazi rest well.”
The incident has sparked a renewed call for improved road safety and stricter enforcement of driving regulations in Nigeria.
