Ex-Anambra Lawmaker Defects from APC to ADC Ahead of 2027 Elections

Hon. Laurence Ezeudu, former Chief Whip and representative of Dunukofia Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, has officially left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Ezeudu announced his defection in a letter addressed to Hon. Laurence Akoba, Chairman of Ifitedunu Ward 2, at his residence in Umanugwo village, Ifitedunu, on Friday, January 23.

In an interview, Ezeudu cited ongoing crises and leadership challenges within the APC at both local and state levels as the reason for his departure. He said these issues had limited his ability to engage effectively in political activities at the centre.

“After careful reflection on the party’s internal divisions and leadership challenges, I have decided to step away from active participation in the APC to pursue commitments aligned with my personal and political convictions,” Ezeudu stated. “I believe these goals can be better realized through the ADC under the leadership of Mr. Peter Obi.”

Ezeudu emphasized that his move was motivated by a desire to advance the interests of his former constituency, Anambra State, the South-East region, and Nigeria at large. He also expressed appreciation for the experience he gained while serving in both APGA, where he was Chief Whip, and the APC.

He urged ward members to trust the national leadership of the ADC and support his efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections. Ezeudu also highlighted his commitment to addressing political turbulence in Anambra, citing a need for leadership connected to the centre.

“My defection aims to support Peter Obi’s vision for Nigeria,” he said. “The ADC represents a new movement, focused on accountability and delivering results for the people of Ifitedunu, Dunukofia, and Anambra State.”

Ward Chairman Akoba presented Ezeudu with his ADC membership card and pledged to secure the ward for the party in the 2027 elections and beyond.

The defection brought along thousands of supporters from APGA, APC, and the Labour Party. The ceremony was attended by notable ADC figures, including former deputy governorship candidate Chief Nduibusi Nwobu, Prof. Stella Okuna, state chairman Sir Patrick Obianyo, Dr. Francis Asokwu, and other political stakeholders.
