Ethiopian Airlines Bans ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ Bags for Nigerian Passengers, Give Reasons

Ethiopian Airlines has officially prohibited the use of ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bags by passengers boarding flights from Nigeria. These sac-like load carriers, known for their durability and affordability, have been a staple among travelers in Nigeria.

According to a letter dated November 24, 2023, and addressed to the Regional Manager of the Federal Airports Authority Of Nigeria, the ban aims to address significant losses incurred by the airline and damages to the conveyor belt system. The letter states, “Please be informed that effective November 25, 2023, the usage of Ghana Must Go to travel on our flight is hereby prohibited.”

The airline cited concerns over financial losses and damage to infrastructure not only on their flights but also impacting other foreign airlines. Despite the ban, Ethiopian Airlines is permitting the use of ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bags for packaging luggage under the condition that they are well packed in cartons with a hardcover of rectangular size. This move is expected to mitigate the reported issues while still accommodating passengers who prefer this type of baggage.
