Enugu Couple Arraigned by EFCC in Alleged Land Fraud
The Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought charges against Mr. Udeani Simon Sunday and his wife, Udeani Dorcas Amaka, accusing them of engaging in an alleged land fraud. The couple was arraigned before Justice M.G. Umar of the Federal High Court in Enugu.
The charges against the Udeanis involve the purported obtaining of N2,750,000.00 (Two Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) by false pretense between July 10, 2019, and December 19, 2019. The couple is accused of inducing one Onugu Angela Chinyere to deliver the mentioned sum under the false pretense of selling a plot of land behind Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ala-Uguaji along Enugu/Port Harcourt Road.
Pleading not guilty to the charges, the Udeanis were granted bail in the sum of N5 million with one surety in like sum. The surety, according to Justice Umar’s conditions, must be a civil servant not below grade level 10 and residing within the court’s jurisdiction. The case has been adjourned till February 6, 2024.
In a separate case, Johnson Aniekwe faced charges before Justice Cyprian Ajah of the Enugu State High Court. Aniekwe was accused of obtaining N9,170,000.00 (Nine Million, One Hundred and Seventy Thousand Naira) by false pretense, forgery, and personation. The charges allege that he induced Aneke Kanayo to deliver the sum under the pretense of allocating two plots of land in Valley View Estate Extension and Golf Estate.
Aniekwe pleaded not guilty, and the court granted his bail application. The case is scheduled for further proceedings on March 7, 2024.
