EndSARS Protest: Lagos PDP calls for sincerity from Government and the empowerment of NSCDC
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Lagos Chapter ably led by Engr. Adedeji Doherty has said that the #EndSARS protests nationwide is a very strong indication that the system has completely failed the citizens whose lives and property are expected to be adequately protected.
The Lagos PDP expresses its utmost dismay at government for its failed plans centred at trying to reform the special anti robbery squad lately.
It is noteworthy to state that, there have been about four major outcries to #EndSARS since 2015.
The Buhari led government seems to be playing lip service, as it has always promised to take steps to reform SARS, but all steps have ended in futility.
The sincerity of the Government in this whole saga seems to be in question, as the government has failed in all its previous attempts to reform the dreaded squad.
The squad has continued to act with so much impunity, sad tales and particularly, their actions have led to the deaths of several Youths.
What sort of government would gloat or behave indifferent to the death of its supposed “Leaders of Tomorrow”?
We in the Lagos State PDP hereby lend our voice to this campaign.
We call for a decisive reformation and total transformation of the entire Police Force.
It is our strong belief, that the entire Police Force needs to go through a new program of reorientation to meet the yearnings of the civil society and Youths, while also fighting crime within the society.
In the same vein, we also state that all members of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and indeed the Nigeria Police Force found culpable in any untoward act in all these episode should be immediately brought to book.
While commiserating with the families of all those who have lost their lives by the actions of SARS, we appeal that the government should adequately compensate these families.
We also wish to state that all persons that have been arrested by the Police during this #EndSARS protests should be unconditionlly released.
We are however proposing that the government should put in place an enabling environment that would ensure that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) takes its rightful place in security matters as entrenched in the Acts setting it up, while the remuneration and welfare structure of the police force needs to be enhanced.
It is our sincere opinion in the Lagos State PDP that the Government should be seen as doing more than it is doing at the moment to douse the tension occasioned by the #EndSARS protests.
Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria
Long live the People’s Democratic Party
