Emergency Rule: ‘Bring Back Fubara’ Protest Continues in Rivers
Hundreds of supporters of the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, staged a protest on Tuesday, calling for his immediate reinstatement. The demonstrators, dressed in black and waving placards bearing messages like “Together we stand for Governor Sim Fubara” and “We want back our Governor, we all voted for,” began their march from Aggrey Road in the Old Port Harcourt Township.
The protest marks the latest in a wave of demonstrations that have gripped the state since March 18, when President Bola Tinubu declared a State of Emergency in Rivers. The declaration led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the state House of Assembly. The situation continues to fuel tensions, drawing both anti and pro-Fubara sentiments across the state.
