“El-Rufai, Others Want Tinubu Removed Because They Feel Irrelevant” – Onanuga
Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga has accused former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and other politicians of seeking President Bola Tinubu’s removal because they feel sidelined in the current political landscape. Writing on X on Monday, Onanuga described their move as contradictory, recalling El-Rufai’s past statement that four years is too short for any leader to effect meaningful change.
He argued that Tinubu has already delivered tangible results in just two years, citing what he called clear economic progress. According to him, foreign reserves are at their highest level in 44 months, the stock market has generated more than N26 trillion in new wealth, and the All Share Index has risen sharply from 53,000 points to over 140,000 points. He said the administration has also harmonised the exchange rate, lowered inflation for four consecutive months, grown GDP by N103.5 trillion in two years, and recorded balance of payment surpluses.
Onanuga highlighted social policies including student loans under NELFUND, cash transfers to vulnerable Nigerians, and increased national revenue that has boosted allocations to states and local councils. He said governors across the country are now in a stronger position to fund capital projects and create jobs, stressing that they themselves admit they have “never had it so good.”
He dismissed those calling for Tinubu’s removal as politically displaced individuals desperate to regain relevance, describing them as “power-hungry politicians.” He further vowed that El-Rufai’s past admission about the time needed for governance would be used against him when election campaigns begin.
“May they never succeed in their plot against our nation and people,” Onanuga declared.
