EKITI 2022 – Ensure safety of voters and INEC officials in Ekiti State – PDP New Era
The PDP New Era group has called on the Federal and the Ekiti State Government to ensure that adequate security arrangements are put in place for the forthcoming Gubernatorial elections in Ekiti State.
In a released issued in Lagos, dated June 13, 2022 and signed by Gabriel Oluwapelumi, the group called for the safety of the staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and indeed all voters during the Elections slated for June 18, 2022.
The group stated that the present situation in the state appears tense and disturbing.
Full text of the release:
We will like to draw the attention of Nigerians, and the international community to the current security situation in Ekiti state.
Barely few days to the gubernatorial elections in the state, we are concerned that reports reaching us paint a picture of a tense environment that, according to our observers, can only get worse.
Reports of the militarization of the state to intimidate voters in communities were the ruling party does not have supporters is disturbing, to say the least.
We hereby call on the Federal government to play a neutral role and allow the people of Ekiti state decide, in a calm and peaceful environment, who their next leader would be.
Furthermore, we call on the security operatives present in the state to do more to prioritize safety of voters and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
We implore them to maintain neutrality, and should ensure that violence is avoided and checked at any level.
We will like to reecho that no human life is worth losing over an election or vote.
The PDP New Era will continue to play its role in voter education, mobilization and nation building to ensure that voters will conduct themselves in accordance with the law and guidelines laid down by INEC and other authorities.
