EFCC Dismisses Officer Accused of Stealing N22 Million Exhibits, Trial Adjourned to December 11

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed one of its officers, Polycarp Andrew, over allegations of stealing exhibits valued at more than N22 million. His trial, which began earlier this year, has been adjourned by a Kaduna State High Court to December 11, 2025.

Andrew, who served as an exhibit keeper at the EFCC’s Kaduna zonal office, was arraigned on May 5, 2025, on a six-count charge of criminal breach of trust. He pleaded not guilty to all charges. During Wednesday’s hearing, EFCC counsel H.M. Mohammed informed the court that he was ready to proceed with two witnesses—an EFCC official and an employee of Opay.

However, Andrew’s lawyer, D.B. Kwajafa, requested more time, explaining that he had just received a flash drive containing a video of his client’s extra-judicial statement and needed to review it. Mohammed opposed the request, arguing that the video was not relevant at this stage.

After considering both sides, Justice A. Bello adjourned the case for trial commencement. According to investigators, Andrew allegedly absconded to Taraba State after diverting several foreign currency exhibits placed under his care. The charge sheet accuses him of misappropriating $11,900 (approximately N10.9 million), $3,800 (about N5.9 million), and $2,800 (about N3.8 million) between 2023 and 2024.

The alleged offences violate Section 300 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
