EFCC Declares Emefiele’s Wife, Three Others Wanted for Embezzlement

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Margaret Dumbiri Emefiele, wife of former Central Bank of Nigeria governor Godwin Emefiele, along with three accomplices, wanted for their alleged involvement in embezzling substantial amounts from the Nigerian treasury.

Displaying the mugshots of the suspects on its official platform, the EFCC identified the three others as Eric Ocheme Odoh, Anita Joy Omoile (CEO of Deepblue Energy Ltd & Lipan Investment Services Ltd.), and Jonathan Omoile (CEO of Exact Quote BDC Limited).

The charges against the quartet include offenses related to economic and financial crimes, specifically obtaining money by false pretenses and stealing, contravening Sections 411, 287, and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State. A notice released by the agency’s head of media and publicity, Dele Oyewale, called for information on the suspects’ whereabouts, urging the public to contact the nearest EFCC command or police station.

“The public is hereby notified that persons, whose photographs appear above (mugshots) are wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly conspiring with a former Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele to convert huge sums of money belonging to the Federal Government of Nigeria,” the notice read.

This development follows the recent prosecution of the ex-CBN governor and 13 others, including deputy governors, over allegations of mega fraud. The EFCC continues its efforts to address corruption and financial misconduct within the Nigerian financial system.
